VP, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Job Summary
Reporting directly to the SVP, Global Communications and Sustainability and working closely with the CEO, the VP, Global Diversity, Equity & Inclusion will be a leader, advisor, advocate, catalyst for change, and influential resource focused on infusing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) into all programs and activities, including practices related to hiring, developing and promoting talent.
The VP, DEI will define Assurant's overall DEI strategy and oversee essential practices and programs related to DEI in the workforce, workplace and marketplace, bringing thought leadership, a compelling vision for success and continuing best practices in the DEI space. This position will develop, lead and amplify Assurant's work around all aspects of DEI, partnering with key stakeholders, including the HR Business Partner team and those responsible for Talent Acquisition, Learning Development and Corporate Communications.
Job Responsibilities
• Translate company strategy and objectives into actionable plans and initiatives that deliver value added benefits to the business.
• Lead the implementation of Assurant's DEI strategy, setting both attainable and aspirational goals for increasing representation and employee experience for underrepresented groups, and increasing efforts to promote our DEI strategy in the community.
• Work in partnership with SVP as well as key Talent leaders and senior management to outline long-term objectives for DEI including a roadmap, driving accountability and alignment with the business.
• Manage workstream teams to develop and execute plans around Talent Acquisition, Communications, and Training.
• Develop a data strategy to drive DEI insights across the employee lifecycle, in order to identify relevant actions.
• Identify external standards and internal metrics. Measure progress on key metrics across the employee lifecycle, partnering with HR Analytics team. Report progress to senior leadership and develop practices to ensure leadership accountability.
• Research external best practices and build relationships with other companies and external organizations and vendors in order to bring new trends and ideas to Assurant.
• Collaborate with our People Organization and business leaders to understand business unit/functional diversity data. Consult with leaders as subject matter expert to understand areas of opportunity within the regional/group and drive focus on actions and relevant initiatives. Partnering with senior leaders and People Business Partners across all departments to develop organization-specific plans for advancing DEI goals, relative to the challenges and opportunities faced by each department.
• Partner with Communications team to develop and execute on an internal and external communications plan. Provide DEI updates to various internal stakeholder groups.
• Ensure diversity outcomes are reflected in marketing materials and community facing efforts and help represent Assurant's DEI vision in the external marketplace.
• Continue to advance employee resource groups to further mature DEI and business strategy.
• Work with Sustainability and Community Engagement leaders to understand external opportunities, to complete external surveys, and to produce Sustainability reporting; align with Sustainability VP on governance for DEI through existing forums.
• Partner with Talent Acquisition to ensure that our candidate attraction and selection strategies align with the company's diversity initiatives and increase our diverse candidate pipeline.
• Work with Talent partners to integrate DEI principles into leadership and other development programs to build inclusion acumen, and to build out training to promote DEI.
• Lead cross-functional project teams to build solutions across a wide range of DEI related projects.
• Builds and grows relationships with global, national, local and specialized DEI and social justice organizations and professional development organizations, as is relevant to the fulfillment of the organization's strategic action plan and goals.
• Oversee the management of the Assurant Foundation - a 501(c)(3) organization that is focused on community engagement, supporting nonprofits to help protect where people live and thrive, connect with local resources, inspire inclusion and prepare leaders of the future.
• Ensure alignment of Foundation with overall business focus - including grant giving, Assurant Cares Scholarship Program and business sponsorships; leverage impact reporting to help drive strategic direction.
• Develop and manage DEI and Foundation budget by identifying most impactful internal and external investments to further Assurant's progress
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in business administration, human resources or related field.
• 15+ years of experience in a corporate environment supporting human resources, staffing, organizational development, diversity and inclusion, or a related field.
• 5+ years people management experience.
• Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
Preferred Skills
• Master's degree business administration, human resources or related field.
• In depth knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to employment and equal employment opportunity.
• 10 years of experience in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion function for a large global organization, leading to tangible results.

Pay Range:
$192,200.00 - $320,800.00
Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
